Safe Storage & Best Practices

Always store your database backups in a secure folder outside the XAMPP directory, and keep a copy in cloud storage such as Google Drive or OneDrive. Maintain weekly backups and name them with date and version for easy tracking and restoration when needed.

1. Store Backups Outside Server Directory

Always save your backup files in a secure folder outside the main htdocs or XAMPP directory. This prevents unauthorized access and protects your data even if the server files are compromised.

2. Maintain Cloud Copies

Upload your latest backup copies to cloud storage platforms such as Google Drive, OneDrive, or Dropbox. This ensures you can restore data anytime, even if local files are lost or corrupted.

3. Schedule Regular Backups

Perform backups at least once a week or before major updates. Keep multiple versions with date and version tags like backup_2025_10_11_v1.sql for easy tracking.

4. Secure Your Backup Files

Protect your backup files with encryption or password-protected archives. Restrict access only to authorized personnel and keep them in a protected storage location.

Backup Tip

Keep at least one backup copy offline (like on a USB drive or external HDD). This acts as a safeguard against cloud account breaches or ransomware attacks.
